Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Mrs. Melanie Coallier
I graduated from Calvin College in 1983 with a Fine Arts major in Elementary Education. I taught first and second grade in the Detroit Public School system for five years, an amazing experience that permanently changed my perception of those in less fortunate circumstances. During this time I earned my Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Michigan. I began teaching at Hudsonville Christian in 2004, following many years of the enjoyment of staying at home with my own children.
My husband, Larry, and I have four grown children and five grandchildren. We are members of Hillcrest CRC. Our most memorable family experiences have been through travel and camping, especially in the mountains of the western states. We enjoy long walks, sports, reading and outdoor activities.
Teaching at a Christian school gives me the opportunity to integrate my faith in all my subjects, but even more importantly, in every relationship I develop with my students. The middle school years can be a challenge to comprehend from an adult perspective, but they are years of profound adjustment and importance. I enjoy this challenge and find joy in my students’ blossoming personalities, their sense of humor, and their ability to dig deeper into the significance of their lives. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This promise is one which can give confidence and peace to middle school students during these years of change and adjustment.
