Matthew 28:19 & 20
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Mrs. Sam Ekdom
My name is Samantha (Sam) Ekdom and I am thrilled to be teaching second grade at Hudsonville Christian! I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Calvin College in 2013. I have certifications in both K-5 Elementary Education as well as K-12 Special Education: Cognitive Impairment. I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for this year!
I was born and raised in Holland, MI and graduated from Holland Christian in 2009. I went on to study at Calvin College (go Knights!). There, I was captain of the Diving Team. I have an older brother and sister-in-law and two loving and supportive parents. The Lord has provided me with a wonderful husband, Jeff.
I believe whole-heartedly that every child is made in the image of God. I also believe that I am called by God to deliver instruction to the very best of my ability to the kids that I come in contact with. Because I believe that children are unique, special and gifted in different areas, it is extremely important to me to educate the whole child. In my classroom I certainly will challenge, stretch and grow children in rigorous academic adventures. However, I will also teach them about displaying God’s love, morals, compassion, selflessness and servant hood.
Education is NOT one size fits all! If I teach as if there is only one way of learning, I limit several students in my class. I agree with Rick Riordan when he says, “Fairness does not mean everyone gets the same. Fairness means everyone gets what they need.” I will promote this idea in my classroom. I will also teach that as a class, we belong together and each of us is important and valued to God and to each other.
I deeply believe that God loves each child that steps foot into my classroom. I am called to love each child as well be caring about them and causing each and every one of them to succeed. They are able to succeed when they feel safe and have an appropriate content, delivery and classroom environment. So, I will do my very best with the help of God to see to it that these needs are met.
