Proverbs 3: 5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Ms. Kara Helms

Professional Biography

I graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2020 with my Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Elementary Education. After graduating (virtually), I started my teaching career at Allendale Christian School as a long-term substitute and paraprofessional. While at Allendale Christian, I spent most of my time subbing for maternity leaves in 2nd grade and 4th grade. God opened many doors for me to experience a range of grade levels throughout the year. I am immensely grateful for my time at ACS and God’s perfect plan that led me to HCMS. God has and will continue to be faithful.

Personal Biography

I grew up in Hudsonville and attended Hudsonville Christian and Unity Christian with my twin brother and younger sister. I spent a lot of time in the middle school building as both a student and a student janitor. It’s crazy to think about how God was already setting the stage for my future even as a middle school student myself. In my free time, I like to play sports, read, and relax at the lake. I also enjoy spending time with my friends.

Philosophical Biography

I am so passionate about this career that God had planned for me. All my life, I was convinced that I would never become a teacher – let alone a middle school teacher! But middle school kids are so much fun! They are resilient, unpredictable, and energetic beyond belief. As educators, we are so blessed to represent a small chapter in the book of our students’ lives. As Christian educators, our role becomes so much more precious. We get to spread God’s love and grace every single day. It is a prayer of mine that my students can grow into their identity as a child of God and find confidence in knowing that their moments have been perfectly planned by Him.
