HOME COMMUNICATOR
Last week marked another exciting HCS Unified basketball game, and once again the bleachers were filled and the energy was high. Our players were pumped to take the court, and the joy in the gym was contagious.
Hudsonville Christian is in our 3rd year of Special Olympics Unified Sports — a program dedicated to promoting social inclusion through sports competition. Unified brings students with and without disabilities together under the belief that “training together and playing together are quick paths to friendship and understanding.” What a beautiful reflection of who we are called to be as a Christian school community.
Over the past few seasons, we’ve had the incredible opportunity to play on Unity’s court between the JV and Varsity games, allowing our entire community to cheer on our athletes. We’ve also competed in the regional tournament at the Unified Sports & Inclusion Center — experiences that have made our players feel valued, celebrated, and part of something bigger.
Special Olympics Unified Sports has proven to be about so much more than basketball or soccer. It builds confidence in our athletes. It strengthens leadership skills in our partners. It fosters empathy, teamwork, and genuine friendships that extend far beyond the court. It unites, our student body, our coaches, and our fans in a shared celebration of ability, perseverance, and belonging.
It has been such a gift to watch the joy this program brings to so many. We see students encouraging one another, celebrating small victories, and demonstrating Christ-like love through teamwork and inclusion
We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in Unified Sports and look forward to many more seasons of growth, friendship, competition, and glorifying God together.
