God always keeps His word. In second grade at Hudsonville Christian School, students focus on God’s promises and how He walks with His people, learning to recognize God’s faithfulness in their lives. Second grade is also a year for expanding and enriching core academic skills as we challenge them to higher levels of thinking and deeper reflection.

Growth & Walking with God
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Faith Formation
The Bible is the lens through which we look at everything at HCS. It weaves throughout our curriculum, and worship and prayer are daily class activities. Nurturing a delight in studying the Bible and sharing about their faith is paramount for our Christian faith. Students attend Chapel (LINK) and discuss their learning with their teachers and classmates.
Faith Portfolio
Using stories, discussion, Readers' Theater readings, and various activities, our teachers strive to make God's promises real to our students throughout the year. In second grade, HCS students continue to add to their Faith Statement Portfolio as they write what they believe about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
Faith Capstone
Throughout the second grade year, students focus on different aspects of prayer with a culminating hands-on prayer walk experience. Your student will learn how to engage in various types of prayer including adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication. Teachers guide students to recognize they are disciples in God's Kingdom.
Learning Areas
Understanding that God created children with different learning styles, we use many strategies in 2nd grade to teach reading fluency, language comprehension, math skills, and scientific understanding. From addition and subtraction to the properties of matter, and from writing personal narratives to memorizing Scripture, your student will learn much about the world God created.
Our biblical worldview is present across all areas of learning. Through an interdisciplinary approach, our teaching in 2nd grade utilizes thematic units to connect Bible, Language Arts, Math, and Science. Weekly “Specials” provide additional experiences in the Arts, Spanish, and Literature, Outdoor Education, and Physical Education.
“I believe that God has a purpose for each one of us, and I count it a blessing to be able to walk alongside His children and help them to discover His voice in their lives.”
