HOME COMMUNICATOR

This past fall, I was grateful to be a part of a team that helped welcome a new family to HCS mid-year.  Through watching the details, I witnessed God’s love in action.

Mid-year school transferring can be a tricky and difficult task, both for families and the school.  For a family, this means new rhythms, unfamiliar faces and spaces, and preparing children for plenty of unknowns!  For a school, this means rearranging, as classes are already formed, schedules are set, and teachers have their students’ mailboxes, folders, and book nooks numbered.

Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Romans 12:10 NIV

As this new family prepared their children for a new school year in a new state, the HCS community also prepared.  Many emails, schedules, and communications were sent out.  Teachers took the time to prepare for a new student, created excitement in their classroom, and talked with students about their new classmate.  And on the big day of the new students’ arrival, there stood each teacher at their door.  They wore big smiles and warm greetings. They took the new students by the hand and showed them around to lockers, desks, sit spots, book nooks, and everything else.  The kids, also well-prepared by their parents, bravely ventured out to the playground with new friends and adventures to be found in a new community.

In the messiness of all the movement, I saw grace, love, kindness, intentionality, and a community that loves each other well.

Community is a gift.  Being a part of a community provides us with a beautiful way to include, love, and show Christ’s kindness towards others.

Romans 12:10 “ Be devoted to one another in love.  Honor one another above yourselves.”

Parent Teacher Conferences

This winter we are looking forward to conferences with our parents on February 10 and 12, 2026. The goal of Parent/Teacher Conferences at our school is to focus on the child so that the parents and teachers support each other in the nurturing of each child.  In the spirit of II Timothy 2:15 we continue this most important cause for our children and for the honor of God.

  • School will be in session regular hours on all conference days.
  • There will be no school for 3 School through Grade 8 on Friday, February 13.

Elementary – Parents will schedule their Y5 – 4th grade child(ren)’s conference(s) online through PTCFast. You will receive an email with a link and  instructions on how to schedule your conference time with your child’s homeroom teacher.

Middle School –  All Homeroom and Encore Teachers (5-8) will be available in the south gym to meet with parents in cafeteria-style conferences from 3:30 – 5:45 p.m. and from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.  There are NO scheduled conference times for middle school students during the winter conference dates.  The cafeteria-style meetings are meant to be short 7-10 minute discussions to allow all parents access to staff members in a timely manner.  If you require a longer conference with a particular teacher, please be sure to connect with them via email or by calling the middle school office at 616-379-0338 to make this request and set up an individual conference on a different date and time.
