One of my favorite parts of each week at Hudsonville Christian is chapel. On Friday mornings, both buildings gather for a time of worship and learning.
The other week, I began my day at the Middle School, where the 8th grade praise team led the school in worship. It was so powerful to hear a room full of middle schoolers belting out praises to our Savior. Halfway through chapel, the team transitioned—and another group of 8th graders stepped in to lead. I was struck by the number of students eager to serve in this way; there were so many that two teams were needed. What a gift.
”Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16 NIV
Later that morning, I joined the elementary chapel. During that time, a group of fourth graders came forward to lead motions for a worship song. They stood bravely, smiling from ear to ear, and it was so special to watch them lead their peers in worship with such joy and confidence.
As I reflected on the morning, my heart was full. I am so thankful for a school where students are encouraged to take a leadership role in worship. It’s not always easy for elementary or middle school students to step in front of their peers to read Scripture or lead a song, but God is clearly at work. He is using our students to point this community to Christ.
“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
