EXTRACURRICULAR

Discovering New Interests

From theatre to track, STEM to Ski Club, Hudsonville Christian School creates after-school opportunities to challenge the minds and lives of our students. An extension of our school, HCS extracurricular activities focus on growing in Christ-likeness just as much as having fun, gaining higher-level skills, and achieving success. We encourage our students to bring glory to God by performing to the best of the abilities our Lord has given them. With over 30 programs, your student can discover new interests, build community, and learn more about themselves and their creator.

Elementary Extracurricular Programs

After-school programs at HCS provide Elementary students with a fun atmosphere for exploring new interests and developing new or higher skills. These include:
  • Math Pentathlon
  • Robotics
  • Running Clubs
  • Sports Clinics and Camps
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Workshops

Middle School Extracurricular Programs

HCS offers over 20 after-school activities to encourage middle school students to try new things, explore their talents, and be active in our community.

Middle School Athletics

Home of the HCS Firehawks!

At HCS we recognize that students have varying skills and expsure to sports. Some have played on leagues for many years and others have just decided to give it a try. Both students are invited to participate and both students will grow in their character and skills. We provide broad access to athletic activities in the early grades and then increase the challenge as students progress toward high school.
In sixth grade, students explore a variety of sports. At HCS we encourage participation (there are no cuts), provide opportunities for social interaction and learning basic skills. Seventh grade teams focus on skill development; we ensure each interested student can participate and have equal playing time. Eighth grade teams see increased competition, with coaching emphasis on developing higher level skills. Sometimes spots on teams are limited and playing time will vary, although coaches try to ensure every athlete has a chance to participate.

Middle School Arts and Academic Programs

Throughout the year, HCS provides extracurricular programs for middle school students interested in the arts or specific academic areas. These include:
  • Math Pentathlon
  • Robotics
  • Theatre (8th Grade)
  • Yearbook

Clubs & Intramurals

What do you do in the middle of winter, when you are too old for a playground but still love to have fun with your friends (and teachers)? You play intramurals! Our fun, community-building activities include:
  • Kickball
  • Pickleball
  • Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • Softball
  • Tag games
  • Dodgeball
All middle school students are encouraged to join in the fun, but if a student is not interested in a particular activity, they are not required to participate.

Ski Club

There is no better way to kick off the weekend than with a bus trip to Bittersweet Mountain with 100+ of your classmates! Middle School Ski Club is a non-competitive, fun-filled activity for skiers of all abilities. This teacher-run club typically meets 3 or 4 times in the winter.

HCS Robotics

Robotics provides a play-based way for students to gain practical experience in engineering and programming while being supported in a safe after-school setting. Our Robotics program hopes to help students learn more about God as the original Builder, Inventor, and Designer while inspiring students to pursue STEM careers. During the last four competition years (no competition 2020-21), we have seen 17 teams qualify to compete at the State Competition, and five teams qualify to compete at the World Competition in Texas.
Programs Available:
  • Vex IQ: 5th and 6th Grade
  • Vex: 7th and 8th Grade
  • Aerial Drone: 7th and 8th Grade

Unified Sports

You haven’t experienced unspeakable joy until you have cheered on the sidelines of a Unified Sports game!

Unified Sports is a program supported by Special Olympics Michigan that offers inclusive athletic opportunities for students in which kids with and without disabilities can play sports together.

Currently, HCS has a Unified Sports basketball team and soccer team in which students from both the Elementary and Middle School can participate.

This program uses sports to promote friendship and understanding between students, and it’s a way for players to stay active and develop knowledge and skills in a supportive environment. We know that all people reflect the image of God, and we have seen how the Body of Christ is strengthened through the unity of its diverse members.

In Your light, we see light.
