Fine Arts
Students have the opportunity to be involved in fine arts through band, orchestra, choir, music, art and drama.
Students have the opportunity to participate in band, orchestra (both full year commitments) and choir (one or two semester commitment). Every middle school student is required to take general music and art classes each year. In addition, art exploratory classes are offered to each grade level. Also, we celebrate the Fine Arts for one week in the spring. 6th graders have the opportunity to be involved in a play performed during their Medieval Festival. Drama is offered as an exploratory class in 6th and 8th grade.
Eighth grade girls have the opportunity to try out for the 8th grade girls’ ensemble.
8th Grade Play
Each year, the 8th grade students have the opportunity to be involved in the 8th grade play. The 8th grade play is a time for students to learn the basics about theater, from stage directions to the art of stage makeup. The play is announced and auditions are held before Christmas break. Any 8th grader who wants to be involved in some aspect of this production can be. A student can be involved by being a part of the cast, set crew, makeup, sound, lights, publicity or ushering. Rehearsals are held three times a week, typically from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., while set crew works from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. after school. More than 60 students are usually involved in bringing the production to life. After three months of rehearsing and preparing, the play is performed 3 times during the middle weekend of March.
